Smoking Questions

Recommended Posts

Before we throw stones at each other remember we are all human here, and no one is perfect.

I had WLS in May 30, 2012 and I reach under goal weight. Before I had WLS I had quit smoking way before. Actually I quit smoking when my son was about 1 1/2 years old when I found out he has autism. My son is now 3 years old. So I had quit for a long time now.

I been doing so great excellent awesome, but my 15 years wedding anniversary came up yesterday, and for some stupid reason there was 3 skinny cigars left from my hubby pack mind you he isn't a smoker, but occasionally he smokes cigars. Every 1-3-6 months. I decided hey it's my anniversary let me have a smoke! Oh no knowing about the risk, ulcers, and everything wrong that can happen. I smoke the cigar, and enjoy every bit. Today I once again took 1 cigar, and smoke half of it,and threw it away, and starting thinking OMG!!! what the hell I'm doing???

Well I don't want to continue smoking knowing I may die especially after having WLS,but I was thinking if I buy the E-Cig with no nicotine will it be safe for my body just to get this stupid I want to smoke again out of my head.

Trust me I don't wanna die,and I quit for my son.

Thanks and plz be nice to me. I know I had WLS for the best, and I sure don't want to cause harm or die cause I'm stupid.

I actually quit smoking last year with e-cigs! I got down to almost no nicotine and both my PCP, surgeon and hematologist were ok with that. I haven't picked the thing up in the week since my surgery tho. I feel like I finally maybe kicked it for good.

Don't feel bad TinyMammi - I quit smoking the night before surgery, and my surgery was 4/9/12, I feel so much better not smoking but I miss it every day. Some friends and family still smoke and when they are around I really want to have one !!! I keep telling myself that I cannot go back because I want to be healthy !! When I had my endoscopy they found pre-cancer cells in my stomach which was from smoking and the only way to reverse those cells is to quit !!! I keep focusing on that. Plus smokes are so darn expensive now I don't miss going to the store every day spending $9.50 for a pack of smokes. Please do not go back when you have the desire to have one go for a walk or do something to get your mind off it. Stay strong !!!

Thanks omg! That's scary pre-cancer cells. I never spend more then $25 on a carton I shop on line & I was never a heavy smoker more like 1-3 cigs per day max. I have to be stronger then this it must be my stressful life ugh

OMG if you smoked that little, don't even do the ecig. Just go for a walk or drink a glass of Water or run the vacuum or something when the urge strikes. I was 1-2 packs a day.

Cigarettes are powerfully addictive. I'm a non-smoker but my hubby was a smoker for six years in his late teens into early twenties. He quit cold turkey in 1981, but it was hard and he was not an easy person to be around for a while. That's 32 yrs ago - he says to this very day cigarette smoke smells so good to him! That is the power it has...

Congrats to all who have stopped and wishing success to those who are still trying...

I quit for twelve years and started again when my kids dared me to try a little cigar..quitting is so hard! It's the hardest addiction to beat.

Your not stupid... We are all weak to something (for example I love sexy men) LMAO. I'm being sill, but I do love men

Talk with your doc about it. I'm sure he has had some patients ask the same thing. What we don't want is for u to start smoking again... Will that thing b enough or only cause u to want the real thing?? I have no clue. See what the doc thinks

Good Luck Girly!!

I use to get them on line too until the IRS caught up with me and had to pay all the taxes- be careful ! I was a pack a day smoke, OMG if you only smoked 1-3 thats really nothing... If you have one every now and then or socially why not but as a daily thing I would not get back into it. I wish I could be strong and have one at a party but once I start thats it !!!! I'm back up to a pack a day in no time - I don't trust myself :(

Don't be upset, you just gave your self a good reminder as to why you quit.

E-cigs have nicotine like regular cigarettes, just no any of the other stuff like tar. They helped me quit but I don't think they're a good alternative.

There are some E- cigarettes that ARE nicotine free, and the ones that aren't have nicotine infused Water ,which is the vapor that

Comes out of the cig.

I quit smoking in February. I didn't think about them for months, but Last week I was at a friend's party and everyone was smoking, so I had one also, Then the next morning, after I woke up, I bummed one off one of the people at the party, and didn't think much of it.

For the next few days I was super irritable, and stopped at the gas station and bought a pack, I got back to the car and realized what I was doing, and freaked out, I went over to my friend's place again and gave them the back and left.

I'm also considering the e-cig, just to get it out of my head, and stop causing damage to my body.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
