Younger Guys (25-)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am 21 years old, 5'10'' and 340 lbs. My bmi is basically 50 (49.7)

I have 3 more weigh-ins for the insurance. My surgery should be around October. I want to see 180-190, am I being unrealistic? Also, I am still battling the bypass verses the sleeve, would you all mind sharing what made you choose RNY?

I had the band and very sorry I did because I didn't do enough research nor was all the research in on it. The failure rates are coming in. That is the same with the sleeve, it is too new and there isn't enough research done regarding failure. RNY is the gold standard of WL and has been around for 20-30 years so they have done research on this. I'm hoping to have RNY in Sept. Everything has been submitted just completing nutrition classes, two more.

I wish I could answer the question asked, but I am 5'10, started at 339 pre-op, and my goal is 175, which gives me a normal BMI. My doctor's all feel it is a reasonable goal.

I know I'm a girl but I'll share me opinion anyway. I had the RNY done when I was 22. I chose it for a few reasons. For one, it's the most known, the most researched, the one with the most results. Second, I wanted something I couldn't reverse, take back or cheat at it. I knew if I could get around it some how I would. I needed that true discipline from the gastric bypass. .. Anyway, I'm glad I did it. I've heard too many horror stories about the lap and and the sleeve and the mini-gastric... I had 100% success. I went in weighing an even 300 lbs and today I'm 115.

I'm 55 years old, 5'10" and weighed 320 lbs on January 1, 2013. I was a diabetic for 4 years and hated it! I had high blood pressure too. 10 years ago I donated a kidney to my daughter. The diabetes attacks all major organs over time. I decided to have the RNY since the weight loss is usually better, the diabetes is usually gone and a close friend had the RYN and had great results. She has lost 139 lbs since August 30, 2012! I lost 35 lbs from January 1st until my surgery date on April 30th. I am now at 248 lbs. my diabetes is gone, my blood pressure is normal and I'm off all medicines! It was the best decision I've made in my life so far!!!

I am 45 and weighed 390. Surgery was 3/5/13 and I am down to 335. My diabetes is gone and it will be tough the first few weeks because I was bloated etc. I had RNY and it is working well so far. I did not know I had the surgery. The antisteshia knocked me out. Just be careful when going to solid food again. Bad choices creep up on you. And exercise is important.

I'm 26 now but 25 when I had rny. I was leaning towards the band but once my doc mentioned it could corrode I decided against it. I'm 6'3 and 530 at my heaviest. And today I weigh 305, I have 90 lbs till I hit my goal weight.

I was happy and healthy as a fat man, I only had the surgery because my leg went numb on day. I wasn't able to do my job anymore and I couldn't even exercise to loose weight. I almost died 10 days after surgery from a GI bleed (passed 2 units of blood)

Rny 8/24/09

Highest 440lbs @ 6'2"

Lowest after surgery 163lbs

Healthy & holding still @ 210lbs for 2.5yrs

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
