Gained the weight back

Recommended Posts

I had the Roux-en-y gastric bypass thirteen years ago. Withing about a1 1/2 years i went from 280 to 120. I became so anemic that I needed blood transfusions. I had alot of severe stomach pain off and on for years. After about 3 years I started to gain the weight back. For the longest time I had diahrrhea about twenty times a day. I couldn't eat enough to stay healthy. I still have to have iv Iron treatments, I have osteoporosis, and I'm fat again. I've always taken the Vitamins, but My levels of Iron, ferritin, b-12, Vitamin d, and folic acid are always too low. I ended up needing a hysterectomy to try and control the anemia. I thought I would be thin forever, but i blew it. I thought I looked good at 120, but people thought i was dying.

I really felt like I was the weakest person on earth to gain back the weight after this surgery. the problem is that I still had the same obsession with food. When asked if I'd do it again, I have to say that I would. I really wanted to be thin. I'm trying not to hate myself for my weight problem, but to be honest I have a hard time with that.

I appreciate you sharing this. This thing is real and the reality is, if we don;t hold ourselves accountable it could happen to all of us. I'm sure your not the only one going through this. Make an appointment with your surgeon and she what can be done, there could be the possibility of a second chance. You have had so many health problems so don't beat up on yourself too bad. Forgive yourself and start thinking what is my next move.

I wish you much happiness, no matter what you decide :)

macaw... this just made my heart break and is one of my greatest fears. Please go back and see your surgeon or at least a nutritionist. You can get back on track. Remember the struggles you had to get this surgery and how good it felt to be smaller. Take it one pound at a time. Remember you will always have a support system here. Good luck!!! Also, you might want to start logging what you are putting in your mouth on my fitness pal now so that whomever you decide to go see can have something to look at as far as your daily intake. You might be surprised as well at some of the choices you are making. 13 years is a long time and I know that the surgery is basically the same with some tweeks.. maybe a re-do might be an option!! Hugs your way

There is so much support out here, where people's surgeries didn't work and they had to have something different. It wasn't that they "failed", the procedure just didn't work, or maybe they fell. You see failure is not a word I will ever use in weight loss as it is so "final" like it will never work for you again. You have just fallen and with that you can get up dust yourself off, and try again, and again, and again. Moto: If you first don't succeed, then try, try again. RNY doesn't work for everyone, lapband doesn't work for everyone, and the sleeve doesn't work for everyone. We just have to find the one that will work and stay positive.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
