Avoiding Iron Infusions? Which Iron REALLY works?

Recommended Posts

Once again, my Iron levels are very low (also B12). I'd like to avoid my 3rd round of iron infusions as they are expensive and time consuming. I've done tons of research online about the absorption of iron. As those who've had a RNY get their duodenum bypassed and some of the jejunum (where most iron is absorbed) so does ANY sort of iron supplement work? I've read that the carbonyl iron as being the most easily absorbed by us RNYers but I wanted to know if anyone has successfully kept their iron levels up with just pills? My hair is starting to fall out again .... I've had two previous infusions before I had each of my kids (4 and 2 years ago) so I guess I'm due for another round of infusions but I'd really like to avoid them. I had a ton of Hair loss 6 months post GBP and when I was pregnant, I got much of it back but now its starting again as my iron levels get really low.
