I've not heard of the band causing back pain, but I know I had discomfort due to the surgery. Mainly from laying on the table. Perhaps that's all it is. If it's a lot of pain you need to call your doctor. Good luck and sorry you're having a rough recovery.

I had horrible back pain too. I agree with the above poster about the operating table. My surgeon told me it was probably muscle spasms from being on the hard table and having my arms strapped out to my sides. Mine lasted at least a week, so hang in there. I hope you feel better soon!

I did have the back pain. The doctor said it was normal. It will go away, but I still sometimes have little cramps in that same area. It's been 7 weeks since my surgery. It takes our bodies longer to heal than we might think.

I also have a lot of back pain. I think it's because i'm sleeping on my back.. It seems to have started at home when i was sleeping uncomfortably. I hope it'll go away soon... grrr

I have experienced some back pain, but I think mine is due to leaning over so much to decrease the pain in my abdomen...i am 4 days post op. I need to really concentrate on better posture but difficult to do when it seems to help so much slouching over.

The back pain is a result of the abdominal surgery. use a heating pad and a hot shower. Mine lasted until about 1 1/2 weeks post-op and is pretty much gone now (2 weeks post-op). It was horrible from about Day 5 - Day 8 or so post-op.

Be sure to take your painkiller! better living thru medicine! besides--that's what it's for--to keep you comfortable. you shouldn't be in a lot of pain. call your dr.--and take the medicine--even if you're dopey from it. you just had surgery--it hurts--and the medicine helps. that was my experience. they told me at the hospital--"it's easier to stay ahead of the pain, than to try to catch up to get rid of pain."

so don't let the pain continue--take that pill! watch tv--take a nap! sweet dreams!

regards,

girlin

I was banded today. I have been having some back pain since I woke up from a nap. I didnt have it at the hosptal. I think it is from being proped up with pillows. See I prefer to sleep on my stomach or flat on my back. These pillows are killing me, but they make it able for me to get out of bed by myself.

Thanks everyone. I called my Dr. and he said that they pump you full of gas so they can see around in there and that the pain is common, it could last up to 4 weeks.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
