Never could sleep on my back pre-op because of my weight and back pain but now all I do is sleep on my back!

I could only sleep on my back after surgery and I am a huge side sleeper. When I got home from hospital I actually found sleeping in a recliner most comfortable so I did that until I got my stitches out 13 days later. After my stitches were out I was bound and determined I was side sleeping in a bed. With lots of liquids hydrocodone I was able to side sleep and within another week I had no issues at all...

I'm 5 days out and desperately wish I could sleep on my sides or stomach. I get severe nightmares when I sleep on my back. But liquid Vicodin helps until I'm able to sleep on my side. Hopefully it's soon.

I am two weeks and some change post surgery and I still experience some discomfort when I sleep on my side (I'm a left side sleeper ever since pregnancy). Luckily, I sleep well on my back but I definitely need an extra soft pillow for my side/belly to rest on when I switch sleeping positions.

Found out the pregnancy/maternity pillow is really a God's sent for extra comfort.

I thought it would hurt so I was afraid to try, until I woke up on my left side one morning. My first thought was "Oh crap! What have I done!" My second thought was "This doesn't hurt at all!" I was about a week out. :-)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
