I really want to have excess skin removed, but I don't think I can get any help from insurance. I workout 6 days awake and try my best to tone up but somethings just won't tone. Any input or suggestions??

Unfortunately most insurances only pay for plastics if they are causing an issue such as rashes. I just had my surgery on Wednesday and I've already started saving cause I know I'm going to have to have it done. You could look into getting a care credit. It's a credit card for medical care. However the interest rate is something like 26%. Pretty outrageous. It's to bad that there aren't more options out there because having extra skin can be just as uncomfortable as being heavy. But I think you look great!! Keep up the good work!! Also use lotion. Hydrated skin has more of a chance of snapping back.

I can deal with a little extra skin while i consider getting it corrected... I figure my overall quality of life is already improving and I just had surgery Monday! It's a big process but most importantly it's feeling confident in ourselves too!

Ditto here. Deaddemmama, what do you use? I've developed a pretty irritating rash in the last couple of days...

If this keeps up bcbs should okay me, but I'm not looking forward to suffering from these things for the next year or so. I'd rather just not have them and live with the skin. After all, as my daughter keeps telling me, "you don't have to look good, mom, you are married and... old". Lol

Thank you everyone. I do have some rashes develop under my tummy hangy part. I usually put deodorant there and it seems to be ok. I have taken pictures incase insurance would help out. Another thing that drives me crazy is my arms. I can feel the muscles getting better but I can't see the results because of the saggy skin. I do however feel better about myself. I started my journey at 330 lbs and now 2 years later I weigh 189. I am still aiming to weigh 150. I wonder how much the extra skin weighs??

On one of the YouTube videos I watched a girl said they took almost twenty pounds of skin off. I would think it depends a lot on how heavy you were and for how long, and how much elasticity you have left in your skin. Some people bounce back amazingly well from some of the pictures I've seen here. :-)

My mom had the extra skin removed and it weighted 17 lbs but that's total: arms, tights, and stomach at 180• they just pulled the front and tucked.

Crazy. Her insurance paid the tummy part since she did have skin irritants

Surgery date 7/25/12

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
