Thanks, I went to my first support group today and it was sad. The lady was crying and saying she makes herself throw up all the time and she had her sleeve Dec 2011. They all just kinda tried to help her for about 35 minutes then the meeting was over. They were talking about meat tenderizer but I could hear exactly what they do with it.

I wonder how this wasn't caught by the psychologist back when she first had the surgery. Or wonder if it developed after the surgery. Either way there was a problem and still is. Hope she gets some type of help before it goes too far and she won't be able to recover.

The psychologist that led the group support said it was not normal for everyone to go through what she was going through and that it was some deep underlying issues and for the rest of us not to be afraid to go through with the surgery. Because I was kinda wondering if I should be worried or not. I still want to have the bypass. She had the sleeve

Yes I will be there. I had the gastric bypass and I'm nine weeks out. Getting in the swing of what to eat and exercising. Don't let yesterday's meeting scare you.

I told my Mom I wasn't sure if the group thing was for me because it was kinda down. But that was my first meeting. I will give it another shot. Do you go to the other support group as well. The one the dietician gives after there nutrition class.

Yes I'm going to both. I think the thing about the support group is it gives you a chance to meet people who are going through the same thing and understand what you're going through. I find my family and friends are great but they don't understand the day to day life after the surgery. It's helpful to have a few people to bounce things off of.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
