deaddemmama 474 Posted June 5, 2013 Last Wednesday I had a really severe asthma attack. I had to go to the er for an albuteral treatment. Got a double! Anyway, as treatment waned my muscles started to cramp...but I could breathe so i was happy. Over the following 45 minutes my muscle continued to cramp so badly that I couldn't walk. Back to er ! When they did my blood work they found out that my potassium had bottomed out from the albuteral treatment! The doctor explained that the drug lowers potassium and since I was a wls patient, my electrolytes were low normal to begin with and that the albuteral pushed me over the edge. Well needless to say that I will be vigilant about getting all my Vitamins and will make sure any docs know I've had wls ! Scary stuff!
BBdoodle 483 Posted June 5, 2013 Very scary..... I get cramps in my legs and feet when my potassium is low. There is the Vitiman drink that has 880 mg of potassium and I try to have one of them like 2x week which helps get that extra boost of potassium
deaddemmama 474 Posted June 5, 2013 What drink..? Of course they said to eat 1-2 bananas each day.....I explained that if I did that I couldn't eat anything else!

I too have low potassium and always have. Haven't had bad cramps lately, but used to get them in my thighs! Talk about pain! My husband would have to rub the huge cramp out, and took a long time to loosen.
