Getting Closer to the Big Dance!

Recommended Posts

I got the results of my psych eval today. Glad it's over. I've also had 6 months of health management that BCBS requires, ABG, pulmonary clearance, and sleep study (pending results). I'm just wondering if my surgeon will use the EKG from my sleep study instead of having me to do another one. This is a very tedious process. Jumping through these hoops hasn't been easy at ALL. Pre-operative fees have really taken a toll on me financially. Hopefully, I will get a surgery date soon. I'm ready to begin this new chapter of my life. BTW, this forum is A W E S O M E!

Once you jump thru all the hoops and get your clearance its smooth sailing from there.. all you have to do is wait for your surgery. Good Luck

Yes they don't make it easy to get the surgery. I guess it's also a way for the doctor's and the insurance company to determine how serious you are. I have been at this since 2/4/13.....hoping to have surgery this month.

I also have BCBS and went thru 6 months of requirements. They did not use my EKG from my sleep study because they want a real 12-lead EKG because it shows things the 3-lead from your sleep study won't. It's to determine if you need to see a cardiologist for clearance beforehand.

Kristlynngirl, thanks for the clarification. I'm just trying to figure out how close I am before my case is actually submitted for insurance approval. I believe I'm half way through the process. I tell ya, I've never been to the doctor this much in my life. The multi-disciplinary approach (with doctors) does make me feel a lot more comfortable before being rolled into the OR.

No problem! Mine was submitted once they had the 7th note from my PCP with my weight and I was approved in under a week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
