Does anyone know how long the gas lasts? I'm not finding it painfull but I am loudly percolating and gurgling like crazy. I'm breaking wind but that doesn't slow it down any.

Yes I would like to have answer to this too. I had surgery same date as poster and its driving me crazy. I have passed some gas but it just keeps coming.

It's really bothering me that I feel the need to burp but can't since it is really painful when I try.

Ladies,

Just some suggestions on relieving your gas and belching (I had surgery in Jan 2013).

1) Get yourself some Gas x pills and take one or two a day

2) Get yourself some Omeprazole Magnesium (acid reducer) and take one or two a day

3) Drink aleast one cup of hot tea ( with peppermint) a day

4) Walk, Walk, Walk don't lay in bed - it makes it worse

Just wish I had someone to tell me these "little things" for the first 4-6 weeks - mine you I only had problems with gas and that was it- no other problems

5 months and 70 lbs down

By a week the post op gas will be gone. But I'm 11 months out and still get gurgling constantly and gas almost daily. Gas x helps a lot!

I was filled with gas up my neck after sugery. I was prepared for it because with my C-section it was even worse - I'm talking about pure agony.

The only medication that gave me relief were the Gas-X sublingual strips (fast acting compared to the tablets). I took those starting day 1 like bonbons. My shoulders hurt so bad, sometimes throughout the day, I would literally feel paralyzed. I'm still taking them but not as often.

In my experience, if you have to break wind, let all "the evil" out until empty. Trapped gas can be very painful.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
