Nuva Ring & skipping periods

Recommended Posts

My doctor gave me a prescription for the ring which I'm planning on starting tonight. He described how to use it, but on the written directions the pharmacy put on the package it says to insert a new one every 3 weeks, instead of 4. I know that it's perfectly safe to so this with the pills so I'm assuming it is for the ring as well. I googled it and there is info on doing this safely to skip periods. Anyone do this? I wonder if my insurance company will cover a refill every 3 weeks if that's what the prescription says.

I was on the Nuva ring for 7 years. At three weeks just take the old one out and put in a new one. The dr will just have to write you a sexist for more then 12 a year. I think mine was written for like either 16 or 18 I can't remember. I never had any problem with it.

Also I'm not sure about your insurance. You would have to call them. Every policy is different. I had no problem getting them paid for with bcbs of pa or united healthcare.

Actually if you read the package insert you CAN keep the ring in place for 4 weeks instead of taking it out after 3 weeks and having a period. The first month I spotted a little, now my periods are just gone. It's lovely.

Yeah but the prescription says to insert a new one every 3 weeks. Which would be having no period week. I'm ok with that lol

I think he just worded it wrong but I'm kinda hoping my insurance will cover it every 3 weeks

Yup, I think he got lazy and skipped the 'remove after 3 weeks then insert a new ring 1 week later' part. First birth control I've ever had that didn't make me feel mody or emotional.

Yup lol. I heard its pretty much the same as the pill and I loved that. I'm thinking I'll love this even more because I can just forget about it.

My insurance covers it every 3 weeks. I got three months. Then have about 4 periods a year. One every quarter. Solo much better! Oh and if you have a hard time getting it in use an empty tampon applicator!!! A MILLION times easier

Must've been a typo, they refilled it at 4 weeks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
