Hey everyone, I'm new. My name is Sara. I've bee working on getting gastric bypass since the beginning of the year. I'm in the final stages and just waiting for my approval call from the insurance for my surgery date. I'm so excited. But...

I'm a lesbian. I have two kids (we had them together) they are one and two. We have been married for 8 years. I got married when I was 19 years old. Well, about three weeks ago we decided that we were going to separate because she is identifying as straight. The emotional roller coaster I have been on since then has been intense. My heart is in pieces.

Not to drag on the saga, but I'm worried now about getting the surgery. Am I doing too much too soon? Should I wait? Will this surgery help me move on because I'm becoming a different woman?

Hi nice to meet you. I haven't had my surgery yet but what I have learned that it is a emotional roller coaster. Have you talked with your doctor about what your going through? Maybe they would have a better outlook on the situation. I do feel if you have a good support system that you can and will get through anything. Only reason I said ask you doctor because if your an emotional eater then it could mess with your surgery.

My ex and I broke up at the begining of my journey. This surgery changes many things but only you can make the hurt go away.

That being said this surgery is for health. Dont do ot for your ex. Do it for your babies and yourself.

Best of luck.

My boyfriend & I broke up right before my surgery, too. I thought it would be harder to recover but for some reason I really didn't think of him at all for a while. Probably the morphine...:) Anyway, I know a lot of people have great emotional issues during & after surgery but I've been great. I have suffered from depression years, too so I was very concerned about having trouble. As of the 3rd of June, I'll be 7 weeks post op. I've lost 30 pounds, I'm more active (just bought a bike to go riding with my kiddos) and my self confidence is rising. You are going to mourn the loss of your relationship whether you have the surgery or not. If you think you can & if you have others to support you then I think you should go for it. Improving your health for you & your babies is essential.

Hi sara, do this surgery for you # 1 & #2 your kids . If uou aren't healthy you may be worse off down the road. Depression msy or may not set in but you will lose weight & become able to do activities w/children. . Think about yourself finally.

Thank you everyone for all your comments. It's so nice to have someone to talk to. My family is really supportive, but having an outside perspective sometimes makes all the difference. I'm so excited to take this journey!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
