music1618 879 Posted May 30, 2013 I need help and suggestions. Next week will be 1 year post op for me. I have lost 116lbs and I am very thankful for it, but I am really struggling right now. I was playing soccer 5 nights a week and getting all my Protein in and felt great. However during one of my games about 1.5 months ago I twisted my ankle so bad I chipped some bone. I had to stop soccer and working out while it healed in a boot. On top of that my parents came to stay with my husband and I and they are not concerned with healthy eating. They bought lots of junk food and while they were here we either ate out or cooked fried foods. It put in motion the hole I am trying so desperately to dig out of right now. I am getting back to working out now, but my sweet tooth is so strong right now. My question is what do many of you do to curb that craving. I can't do the sugar free stuff as the fake sugars give me Migraines. I don't usually dump on sugar. I am asking this group because I know I will get honest feedback. If I tell my family I will get the typical oh no you are too smart to gain the weight back, but it is my biggest fear. This group here are the only people to truly understand the demons we are facing. Please help me.
JustJenn 542 Posted May 30, 2013 If you can't do sugar free I'm wracking my brain! I'll be thinking about it and get back to you! In the mean time... All the luck! Surgery date 7/25/

Up your Protein through shakes and go back to Jello and broth? Give your pouch a good cleansing?
MissNikki27 54 Posted May 30, 2013 Well since you don't dump perhaps you should eat healthy sugars to offset the junkfood cravings. Making sushies with real fruit juice, eating Jello can help or it can be something mental. Everytime you want to eat something bad go back and look at all your old pics from before surgery. 1 BBdoodle reacted to this
BBdoodle 483 Posted May 30, 2013 I am 13 months post op and have cravings as well. When my sweet tooth acts up I feed it, I don't deprive myself but I do limit what I eat. I do not dump on sugar either so if I want chocolate I have it !!!! I buy a candy bar or some Resses or M&Ms .. of course they are the single serving size, I don't buy the 1 lb. bag or anything -LOL If I was two bars I eat them ... BUT... the next day I stay on my treadmill long enough to work off those calories I ate PLUS my regular work out !!! Its a pay off and that works for me. When I have a craving I feed it, I don't deny it because that only leads to overeating again for me. This little system works for me AND Portion Control !!!! BTW I love your picture with the puppy, I'm a HUGE animal lover

I know if I don't it will become a frenzy when I do eat it. I know this is all in my head. I just don't want to slip into the dark hole and not be able to myself out. I know I will remain active, and like you said I workout harder when I eat junk food. I am not gaining weight due to the food choices, but I did this to get healthy. I don't believe that eating a sweets once a day is being healthy. I also wonder if this is just a phase I am going through. I am an animal control officer and that little puppy was picked found on the side of the road by a partner of mine. He got adopted soon after.
nikkiba75 276 Posted May 30, 2013 It ok to indulge every once in awhile but that everyday I was having the same problem I started eating chips and granola and my weight loss slowed to a crawl so I decided to go back to following my diet and I also cleansed my pouch by drinking liquid for 2 days and now I get in at least 100 grams of Protein and all my fluids in and increased my exercise and it's working Be careful, sugar is your trigger food you need to avoid it I'm 9 months out and down 101 pounds Good Luck Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk
dottednails 122 Posted May 30, 2013 What about some dehydrated fruit helps with the sweet tooth you have to chew it longer so it helps with snacking and it has natural sugar
