I was dehydrated from the preop cleaning out...so it took many sticks until the finally got my right hand just below my index finger. They even tried with ultrasound to get in a vein...no luck. Wasn't painful, just was afaid they wouldn't get to do my surgery because I was dehydrated so bad.

Best of luck to you!! Just breathe through it and you'll be fine!

Mother was in the hospital and they were having to change her IV about every three days. One day everything was set up to change but the nurses left it all to go on to do something else. One of her doctors came in and noticed it and told Mother she would set it. The doctor went into the left arm on top into a deep vein (in fact you couldn't see it). The doctor said this one should last longer because the other are the superficial veins and easier to find. So long story short, If they have trouble (I only give them 3 times) then they are told to call in the anesthesiologist, no ifs, no ands, no buts. I've actually have had to do that three times out of five surgeries.

Hi everyone.

Ever since I got my date I have been worrying about weird things about the surgery. I have terribly hard veins to find. It's so bad I was sent home when I went for blood work bc they couldn't get one. I had to come back another day. For my stress test' date=' egd etc they have done the IV in my hand. Has anyone had the IV in your hand for surgery? Thanks[/quote']

I had one in my hand years ago. I was really sick with something rare and spent two weeks at Mass General. When I was in intensive care one of the docs was afraid the IV would come out so he put it in the back of my hand and sutured it to my hand for good measure. I was too out of it to care but the nurses were outraged! :-)

My iv blew about six hours after sugery. They couldn't get a vein...and after 41/2 hours without pain meds, finally a pediatrics ward nurse got it. I'm a hard stick! Longest four hours of my life!

Mine was on the bend of my right arm on the opposite side of my elbow. Was the only vein they could find. What a pain in the butt it was, every time I bent my arm in the hospital it would cut flow of the IV and the darn thing would BEEP. Made for 2 horrible nights.

Mine was on my inner left forearm. They insisted on trying my hands even though i told them they will roll and blow. But they did not listen go figure.

Thats where mine was! Was so annoying, constantly beeping at me for the week I was in the hospital.

Luckily they have listened to me so far. Nurse tried once and didn't get it so she said she'd let anesthesia do it.

She bruised me on that one try but at least she didn't try multiple times.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
