Is lap band a stepping stone to RNY?

Recommended Posts

So I am new around here, and I am new to the process as well. After many years of fighting with my weight only to watch it keep going up I am going to finally walk this path. I am an excited mess as my partner likes to say. I have been reading everything I can get my hands on and researching several hours an evening about the process and I guess I'm a little confused. I keep seeing that people have lap band and then have the bypass, is this a step in the process? Should I expect to have lap band and then bypass? If anyone could clear this up it'd be great!!! Thank you so much for your time!

What I have noticed is that some people who don't have much success with the lap band turn to rny. You really want to do all the research you can. When I first started this process I wanted the sleeve and then the lap band and now rny in which I was adamant on not getting initially. Many factors come into play when deciding what wls to get, behavior, existing medical issues, what your insurance will pay for etc.

You will have to discuss with your surgeon what is best for you medically. What made my decisions for me becauce I was cleared for all there it was just a matter of what one... the RNY surgery you will lose the most weight from, the second is the sleeve and third is the lap band. I felt if I was going under the knife I wanted the best bang for my buck.

Mine was not intended to be a stepping stone.....but had so many issues with my band an then eventually slippage. So yeah, it turned out to be a stepping stone but that was not my intent. If I'd known then what I know now I'd have gone straight to RNY.

My lapband failed and I had a revision to the RNY. It's not a step in the process. Talk with your doc and have a open honest conversation so you and he/she can make the best choice for you! Best Wishes

I'm with you. But my slippage was a surprise, I never had an issue with the band. My intent was not to have more surgeries because of age thinking the band would be a life time thing.

My lap band was ruptured during a fill. Since I was never really successful with the band and since studies are now showing ppl with diabetes and other metabolic issues have much less success with the band; my new Bariatric doc recommended RNY. I had planned the band to be my only surgery but it just didn't work out that way.

I had band slipage and am having rny the end of july. my dr suggested rny to begin with but insurance would not cover. im a self pay 16k. thats how important this is to me. in reference to a band as a stepping stone, i do see your point. the easy experience of the band losing 70 pounds, made the rny decision much simpiliar.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
