My first appointment with my surgeon

Recommended Posts

I see my surgeon tomorrow for the first time. I hope and pray that they are still going to tell me that i am having surgery by July 1. I have all my questions written down to take with me. The only thing i have left to do is the EDG scoop. i am so nervous i can't sleep ;) If anyone knows of something i really need to ask please speak up!

thanks

Have you researched you surgeon to determine how long he has been doing the surgery, statistics like how many surgeries has he done, what surgeries is he an expert at? You may also want to ask about about post surgery care. It was very important for me to find a surgeon who has done over a thousand surgeries and has been doing wls surgery for many years. I also asked other patients about what after care is like. I didn't want to be a patient at a practice that was just in it to get my surgery money and then leave me out to dry. I know it's important for me to be able to go to a support group...which my DR's office has. The psych doctor and nutrionist there are great. and they don't make you feel like you are bothering them. The office staff in general are very knowledgable and helpful with the whole process. They have excellent follow up.

Ask about complications... All the what if's and has this happened to you. Research the hospital my ensurance would only allow me to go to a hospital that was a "center of excellence/disctinction center" in bariatric surgery. Just know you can ask questions up until they put you out for surgery :)

Blue Distinction Centers are available for:

  • Bariatric Surgery
  • Cardiac Care
  • Complex and Rare Cancers
  • Knee and Hip Replacement
  • Spine Surgery
  • Transplants

thank you for your responses

Yes i researched my surgeon. I was highly recommended to him by my sisters gastro doc. I also have to go to a center of excellence for my insurance. Its funny that you mention being dropped after they get your money because that was the first question i asked at the seminar. I to am not a fan of you care about me until you get my money and then when you do, you don't know me anymore! I will ask again tomorrow though. Thank you for reminding me to bring it up again. You both have been helpful... thank you

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
