Ok so my surgeon makes us buy these prepackaged meals for the 2 week diet. Bars, puddings, Soups, and shakes. I did ok the first week apart from hunger. The Soups quickly got to where I couldn't eat them so I used broth instead.

Now I have bad diarrhea- worse than last week. All the food is making me nauseous. I tried eating dinner and could only manage a couple bites and felt sick. I am so hungry it's physically painful and anything I do eat comes back out as liquid pretty quickly.

I am miserable. I am hungrier than I think I've ever been and can't really eat because I feel sick. I'm about to go try a couple sugar free Popsicles and hoping I can handle those. Though I wouldn't call those dinner.

One week till surgery.

Is it required that you use the packaged meals.....chicken and veggie broth is pretty good. drinks lots of fluids....when I had to do the ketosis diet I freezed crystal light and ate it as a slushie to make me feel like I'm eating.

I just started my pre-op diet yesterday. I am super hungry...but guess that is to be expected. We can have 3 Protein shakes/day, 2 protein bars/day and one very small meal w/ 6oz protein, 2 c. raw veggies or 1c cooked veggies, 1tsp of oil/butter and 1/2 c starch - total of 1115 calories. The only think keeping me motivated is that the more I stick to it, the easier it will be for the doc to do the surgery. Really want it to be as easy as possible for him so there are no mistakes. It's rough. I can relate to you and you have been doing it longer.

Yes they require us to eat these meal replacements- 4 a day. My body has apparently decided we don't want these anymore and is making me so nauseous when I try. I feel like I'm barely eating because I can't stomach those any longer. Trying to keep to foods that aren't bad when I don't eat the replacements- green veggies (surgeon allows these in unlimited supply), chicken broth, Jello, and popsicles. I can also have 4 oz of very lean meat a day so that's been helping. Though lately since I'm hardly eating I have eaten a bit more than 4 oz of meat just to get some calories in. I am probably getting like 500-800 calories a day. I can tell I'm dropping some weight.

well take advantage of those green veggies....fill up on those....you can do some amazing stuff with broccoli and spinach. Ughhh I hate eating packaged meals they make me want to puke too. Then just thinking about how they are prepared and processed they can't be healthier than just making your own. I realize they want to limit your calorie intake during this time but perhaps offering an alternative recipe or menu option might be more practical. Keep it up though you'll be fine.

I am having the same problem with the Protein shakes! I haven't been hungry at all. I guess my body is use to the liquids. This first two days were HORRIBLE!!! I am so ready for the 4th!!!

Ladies... hang in there and think about how the end result... surgery will be so worth it. I am so glad I did not have to do a 2 week preop. But know that we are all here with you and waiting for you on the other side. on the upside... it's almost like you are getting a colon cleanse...

Boy am I Glad my surgery doesn't make you eat only, the things they can make a profit on, although the other day I did see someone complaining about the nasty vil!tasting slopbher doctor was trying to push and wondering if there was any recourse. You expect your doctor's to be inde0endant critters not in some retail groups back-pocket. Of course I have my mini-sorrow also. The night before my surgery I have a 12 bottle of weird clear liquid to drink, than I drink another one traveling to Columbus so it's at least 2 hours before surgery. Made by Abbott Labratories, guess where their home office is? Yeppers, Columbus! Even a big facility like the Ohio State University is not immune to a little kick- back blandishment!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
