I keep having these gas pains I have tried heating pad and gas x strips I'm in a lot of pain. Between pain from surgery I'm cramping from my menstural(sp) cycle and gas pains. I'm miserable, I'm walking as much as I can I'm sleeping when I'm not walking or spending time with my son how can I make this gas pain just pass please help!!

I feel your pain.. I was not as miserable as you mention but did have a hard time with the back pain, burping felt like having knives dug into my shoulders. I used the heating pad on my back and that helped A LOT!!! When using it on my tummy it only made matters worse!!! Seems like you are doing the right thing with walking as much as you can. Another thing that reaaaally helped me was having someone rub my back, hopefully you get many volunteers for that, :P

I am so so sorry. Gas pain is the absolute worst. Pain medication doesn't even help. I tried every thing I could think of. My mom rubbed my chest and back, I laid on the bed with my butt up in the air (gravity, right!?). Gas-x strips don't help the gas pain from the gas they use during the surgery.

None of this is helping I'm sure... They absolutely only thing that can and will help.... Is walking. I hated hearing that but it ended up being true.

I am so sorry, I wish I had a suggestion better than that. I know when I finally did pass gas I know I have never been so happy to fart in my entire life! :)

That's what I'm afraid off when I have my sergery...the gas and not being able to pass the gas...I'm already a very gassy person and sometimes it is difficult for me to pass gas no before surgery....I'm praying that I don't have that problem when time comes...I'm glad you are able to fart now, it sounds funny but it isn't, farting is serious and can be painful.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
