If you feel something is really not right or the pain is totally unbearable I would contact your surgeon. There are lots of things that can go wrong and the first week after surgery is tough for lots of people and some people sail right thru the recovery process. I would ask for stronger pain meds.

:) it's normal. My back hurt like crazy because I don't sleep on my back but I had to for weeks after surgery. I don't think I got to sleep on my side comfortably for over a month. We have a few on here that like to brag that they never had any gas or problems or pain...but really. Most of us did. It's perfectly fine and normal. Put it in perspective. You have 5 to 6 holes cut in you. Then big stick things and a camera probing around while a doctor cut apart your stomach, shove it to the side, perfected your new pouch, pulled up intestine, cut it in half, and then stitched it to the two pieces all while that camera person tunneled away inside of you. THEN it was filled with air, checked for leaks, thoroughly checked over, equipment removed and stitched or glued shut.

I ask you: Who wouldn't hurt after that?!

:) So yes, maybe a suppository and gas x for the gas pressure. Maybe calling the doctor and saying this med isn't effective. I had percocet. It worked well for me.

And then rest.

And yes to the heat. I was told to use one. :) And I agree that you should call the surgeon. Tell them your symptoms and ask for stronger meds.

Love your description and explanation of the pain. It is so true!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
