I downloaded the C25K app (a version of the the couch to 5k) and did Day 1 today. Well, lets just say the jogging portion of it did not go so well lol. I still have pain in my left knee, though it has eased up a lot since surgery. I couldn't do all the jogging but I did what I could. But I'm determined to do it so I will just keep repeating Day 1 until I complete it right, then I'll move on to Day 2.

I decided today that I am going to start kicking my butt into gear. I'm not going to let my surgeon scare me or make me feel like a failure. Also I have a friend that had the surgery before me and she did great with it, though she definitely does not do all the things she's supposed to. There's a whole back story with her...basically I'm a 'fake friend' to her, which I know sounds horrible, but like I said there's a whole 14 year story behind it. And there's no way I'm going to let her do better at this than me! :)

yayyyy keep it up with the c25k...I have that app too and I used it once but didn't really complete it as instructed because I was on my lunch break and didn't want to come back sweaty. I need to start on it for real though, I'm not going to get discouraged though....when I use it I will do like you...... master each day before moving forward.

As far as being better than your "friend" just focus on being the best you can be. Everyone's results are different....you really shouldn't compare yourself to anyone else. If you want to compare....compare yourself to the old pookiebear and the new healthy pookiebear you are becoming....you will do great.

I have been a runner for many years thru being thin to being overweight/obese and still ran. It took me about 6 mmonths to run a mile without stopping. I would walk 5 miles/day once my body got use to the walking I had to challenge it more so I started jogging. I could only jog a 10-20 steps at a time, then I increased a bit more each time and really pushed myself. I constantly set goals and reached them. I LOVE running and my next goal is to run a 10 minute mile once I reach that my next goal is to run a 9 minute mile. My advise is start out slow and steady, you don't want to push too hard then you will end up with a injury, take baby steps and good luck :)

I am thinking about running my first 5K at the end of this year. I feel like it is finally something I can do.

That's what I'm doing :) I can't jog as much as they want you to yet, but I'll do what I can the walk the rest. I'll keep doing that until I get better at it. And I'm sure my knee will ease up more with the more I do.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
