terry1118 1,274 Posted July 6, 2013 OMG! I am laughing but sharing your agony. Your mother in law sounds a bit senile - or is she just dense? Keep your chin up! Clearly you are too sweet than to tell her to MYOB. I need to find a tactful way to say it- like- " this is so personal' date=' i am just not comfortable discussing it with you yet "- because i have plenty of opinionated coworkers and my surgery will be at the hospital where i work.[/quote'] My mother in law has a good heart but her main problem is she DOESN'T LISTEN. She latches onto a word or two and takes it from there. For 31 yrs I have been telling myself "but she means well" over and over and over and over... Lol Good luck to you with your surgery. It must be hard to keep your personal health issues private when you work there. I know privacy concerns are important in the medical field (we all get those tiresome privacy papers every time we go to a doctor). Do your coworkers have sense enough to respect yours, the same as any other patient? It would be very unprofessional if they didn't. Mine was violated by a nosy coworker last week - somehow she found out what type of surgery I had and started blabbing to anyone who would listen. I filed a complaint against her with my HR Dept. There are some catty coworkers i just dont trust, and others have warned me about them talking behind my back. So i will have to keep HR in mind. Should have filed harassment against one last year. But she did eventually get hauled in for multiple complaints, and the whole bunch got a "talking to".... Still, i dont trust her clique. And will be certain not to go to that unit postop. doingthisforme 36 Posted July 7, 2013 Wow. I initially told my husbsnd and my best friend who is going thru this process also. Then my kids (10 &17).. I started educating my hubby and boys nonstop on it. This allowed them to learn about it, why its so important to me and to keep secret. It has worked. We are all eating better and they are soo supportive. Thats hard with teen boys. Now as far as work- as need to know basis. My boss , assistant, 3 coworers and HR ( thats me). They are all supportive .Now that my surgery is on 7/10 I announced to all staff I'm out but no details on why. There is that stigma of negative comments etc..I want to stay focused and positive. After who cares it is my choice. People smoke by choice and continue. People have plastic surgery by choice, etc. People choose many things in secret...they don't say it... my choice has a physical result.... lack of knowlege is ignorance. When there is ignorance lies confusion. They're just confused about this topic that's all. I chose who to tell on my own decision. But don't do this alone. There is atleast one person to count on. I found a great group here... I luv reading and sharing with you all! 1 Band Mom 3 reacted to this
