Getting my gallbladder removed

Recommended Posts

So after a couple weeks of issues my surgeon is going to remove my gallbladder as well as do a scope of my rny surgery and check my spleen. Turns out ct scan showed a cyst on the tip of my spleen. I'm about 4 months post op rny. How was recovery from gallbladder surgery?

Sorry to hear that you have to have surgery again. I had my gallbladder out a year and a half before my rny and I had more pain and felt worse then when I had my rny done. But then again everyone is different. Hope yours goes well. Good luck!!!

My Gallbladder was removed the day before Thanksgiving several years ago before any WLS. Went into surgery at 3:30 PM released at 10:30 PM stopped at Hardee's to get a hamburger. Then the next was at Country Kitchen for Thanksgiving dinner. Back to work on Monday. Pain, if there was any, didn't seem to bother me.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Seems like its about 50/50. People have told me little to no pain but than I've also heard that the pain was worse than rny. I have a 2 year old son so I'm trying to figure out how long I may need help because my husband can only take off work the day of surgery.

I had two gallbladder attacks not knowing thats what it was. Never went to the doctor figuring I would get over it. My last one was mild and just happened to have a follow-up visit with my doctor a day later and I brought it up. My that afternoon when test results came back the nurse was calling me to see what surgeon I wanted to follow up with. The pain of the attack was far greater than my four major surgeries I've had. Will say I passed a kidney stone that was bad also. Just make sure you take your pain medication when you are suppose to, don't wait to have pain then take them.

I've had two c-sections and one gallbladder surgery and I can say that the gallbladder was waaaaaaay easier. I was up and at em the next day and back home taking care of the babies. I took it easy and kept a pillow over my tummy because my toddler was prone to jumping on me but other than that I don't remember having much pain or anything. I'll def take being knocked out for surgery over being awake for the whole thing...ugh that sucked.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
