I have to do the shots too and not sure if I have the courage. My daughter is going into her 4th year of nursing school so I think she will be drafted to do the deed.

Actually the Lovenox shots aren't too bad. You can barely feel them going in. The worst is probably a very slight stinging sensation for maybe 10 seconds after you're done, and it doesn't happen after every shot. It's really not that bad, and you'll do just fine!

Well guys I came home around 3 pm yesterday! First night at home went very well. I do miss the hospital bed. But I think in doing good with all the meds...and there's a lot...but I left the hospital off all the quick acting insulin and I'm taking a low dose of Lantus at night. However my bs was 54 this morning. So I may be cutting that one out soon! So for now I'm sipping walking taking meds and resting. Thanks for all the support!

The first shot you give yourself is the hardest. Then you gain confidence and its easier. Yes the Lovenox does burn. Be sure your injection is at least 2 inches away from your belly button. Pinch up a big inch of skin to inject into . Pinching numbs so you dont feel the needle prick you.

I had my surgery on Monday' date=' July 1st, and came home on Wednesday, July 3rd. I'm doing OK, still in pain but being controlled by narcotics every 6 hours. Not too much gas pain except in my shoulder, which is killing me. I came home with my drain, and I hate it. I get to keep it until July 11 :( I think I would feel a whole lot better if I didn't have it, but nothing I can do about it. I'm doing well at giving myself twice daily injections of Lovenox for 10 days. Doing pretty well drinking these Protein Shakes, he wants me to have three 8 oz shakes per day plus 3 meals of 1/4 cup of strained Soup or SF pudding. I can usually get about 6 oz. of each shake down. All I'm really doing is slowing walking around my house, and resting. I am exhausted most of the time, plus I swear they didn't let me sleep at all while hospitalized!! I appreciated that the staff was so focused on my care but damn I wanted to sleep more than 30-45 minutes at a time...haha![/quote']

I feel you on the drain. I have had my G drain for over 3 weeks now. I get it out Thursday. I hate this thing and damn it hurts!

So some folks go home with drains and some don't. I wonder what constitutes needing to go home with a drain?

My brother had rny surgery in November in Joliet and he came home without a drain. I go for my last pre-op physical and nutrition class tomorrow (surgery is July 16) and I will defintely ask if I have to have a drain when I leave the hospital.

I know my surgeon said because my BMI was over 60 (my weight was 366) I needed the drain for a week. If I would have weighed less I would have had it out before being discharged.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
