I'm 19 and my surgery will most likely be in October. My moms is next week and she's super supportive of me as well as my friends and the rest if my family, but no one else really understands!

I'm frustrated I'm not losing weight before the surgery because I have to lose 5-10%.

I could use some friends going through this too!

Did the surgeon give you a diet plan?

I have to do a 2 week liquid diet before surgery. I am on day 7/8 day, unsure but each dr. Is different. So of us have to do a laxative drink or something the night before but my dr. Didn't tell me about this. The liquid diet is hard but I am hanging in there. It will be worth it in the end. Just ask your dr. To make sure.

Maybe to show support do half the liquid diet or the whole thing with her..just to give you a jump start and

know what you will be getting yourself into.

I hate the requirement of having to lose 5-10% before surgery. Most very heavy people know how to lose weight, it is the keeping it off part that is usually the problem. I understand nearing to clear the space near the liver but that should be covered in the 2 week pre-op liquid diet most people have to do.

Best of luck to you in losing the weight, it sucks, but believe me, it is worth it and I am only 3 weeks post op!

Yeah I get it and feel the same way, and I am trying to eat healthy, and work out and stuff but sometimes it's hard because I have such a crazy schedule right now.

Also, I haven't talked to my nutritionist yet, but I decided on doing a half liquid diet (2 Protein shakes 1 meal) or a while. I'm really excited! But my mom was doing it right before her actual two week liquid diet, and she said it helped a lot!

Focus on eating low fat, low sugar diet as that is what you will do post surgery. My nut had me cut out something new each month, such as soda, sweets, fried foods, alcohol, smoking, etc. If you do it slowly, it isn't so hard. I had all of the unhealthy food items off my menu before surgery, so now, post op, the choices seems natural. Good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
