khalilmom90 12 Posted May 21, 2013 What exactly is Water loading? surgery: April 28th~~~current weight loss 20 pounds I'm not sure exactly but I read that it can help gastric bypass patients stay full longer I tried to research it but not quite understanding it
anm1063 24 Posted May 21, 2013 interesting.....from the little I read it is a common practice in anorexic patients to fool their doctors in to thinking they gained weight.......also read that body builders use it to make their muscles bulge for competition....I will need to look more into it too.... 1 khalilmom90 reacted to this
Nel 189 Posted May 21, 2013 I've been told that "water loading" for us is to drink a glass or two of Water before you eat once we have a mature pouch. It helps us feel fuller. It's not downing 7 glasses or anything. I really doubt it would cause electrolyte imbalance. 1 khalilmom90 reacted to this

I Google water loading for gastric bypass patients and it didn't say it was bad but it didn't exactly say what it helps
oldoneyoungagain 200 Posted May 22, 2013 "Water loading can lead to serum electrolyte imbalance and cardiac arrest." Why would anyone want to try that? Totally agree with you on this. A radio station in my area, about three years ago, had a contest on how much Water someone could drink. Forgot what the prize was, but one of the contestants actually went home and died because of water loading. It can and does happen. The sad part to the story, the children were left without one parent and if memory serves me right it was a woman.

It was a contest called "Hold your Wee for a Wii" right? They had to drink a gallon of water and see who could hold it the longest. It caused her brain to swell and she died. deaddemmama 474 Posted May 23, 2013 There's a link to it floating around. It has to do with eating too many soft calories after six + months post op. You're supposed to Water load 45 minutes before meals and then stop. Then eat hard Proteins that keep you fuller longer. I found the link but no supporting research. I'm going to ask my Dr. and nut. 1 khalilmom90 reacted to this
