I just want to share this quote with all of you because I know it hits close to home with all of us knowing this isn't the easy way out! It came from the mayor or some politician that had lap band surgery...

“I said, ‘Well, do you really think I need this?’ And he said to me, ‘If you came in here with cancer and I told you that I had a 40-minute surgery that'd give you a 90 percent chance of cure, would you sign up?’ And it just really crystallized it for me. And I said, ‘Yeah, I would.’ And he said, ‘Well, then why wouldn't you do that to cure obesity?’

I'm pretty sure that was Chris Christie, Governor of NJ. He has been criticized and mocked about his weight since the campaign. I'm happy he made the the move to get healthier for himself and his family.

That's exactly who it was! Lol I just saved the quote but couldn't remember who it was! I thought it was a great way to explain it. And I read this to my brother who told me I was taking the easy way out and I think he understood where I was coming from a little more.

This surgery is just a tool to help us with weight loss, it takes commitment on our part with protion control, exercise and diet then it will work. Surgery is NOT a easy way out by no means !!!!

I love the quote....wls is definitely not the easy way out. It takes long process just for a surgeon to even consider you for surgery....it's expensive, painful, and it take a whole of committment on your part. I'm going to so use this quote.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
