Full liquids...should I gain weight?

Recommended Posts

I was banded Jan 30th...I just got on full liquids this past Tuesday. So what I'm eating is 1/2 c grits and V8 for Breakfast. 1/2 to 1 cup creamed Soup for lunch. Yogurt for a snack. Then 1/2 to 1 cup creamed soup for dinner. I drink Crystal lite, V8 and Water all day long. I lost 19 pounds the 2 weeks after surgery. 27 total 2 weeks before and after surgery. I've gained 8 pounds back. Is this normal? Is it water?? What is it?? On the paper the doctor gave me, it listed all these foods and then for calorie intake it says 1700 a day!! I'm no where near that! Why have I gained? I'm not stressing because I know this isn't the time to lose, but why so much gain???

Thanks!

It just worries me. I'm not eating high calorie Soups or drinking anything with sugar. Ughh....I guess I can't expect anything until a fill! Thanks!

I'm in Brooksville. I went to Dr. G in Zephyrhills.

Somewhere I'm reading to keep calorie count around 800 for 36 months after surgery. I think 1700 is high. I know I won't be doing sugar.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
