Starving and wondering how im gonna do this

Recommended Posts

I've been doing pretty good on my prep diet. Yesterday was pretty bad though. The guys got pizza and it was all I could do to not eat it. I had to go hide in my room and I made the husband do clean up so I wasn't tempted. I have to seriously increase my fluids though because the increase in Protein is hard on the kidneys and it's giving me a UTI.We don't get any solids except sf jello...if you can call that a solid.

Hello Janel129 and Bevy Boo' date='

My surgery is also on May 28, I have to be at the hospital at 0800 and surgery is at 1000. I am excited and nervous. When I started this liquid diet, I had some of the same side effects, hunger pains and headaches. Then a few days after that I was questioning, am I making the right choice because as I look at my schedule last night - basically no real food for about 2 months.[/quote']

I am also on the 28th. 12 days of liquid with 2 days of only clear liquid. Today was the hardest I think. I would say it does get easier, but never easy. My husband goes to my parents for dinner each night so I don't smell food. But I am still really hungry. The nurse at my preop said I can have a pickle each day until tomorrow, then all clear after that. I also have a bowel cleanse. I have no idea how I will get that down. Gag reflex is so bad. I have to be there at 530 am Tuesday, surgery at 8. I am so emotional right now, second guessing this decision even though I know there is no better decision for me. Just wish it would be here already!

So day two I'm doing better but I still have NO energy and I've been sleeping 3/4 of the day. Will this go away?

Sorry to say the tired feeling doesn't go away but ur body will adjust and you will just get through it! Keep ur head up and stay focused on the end result!!!

Thanks. I have a little more energy today and today is actually a lot better food wise. Instead of a Protein Shake at lunch I had a Protein Bar and surprisingly that was more fulfilling and taste so much better. Also I can't get over how emotional I have been. The slightest thing will bring tears to the eyes.

Totally agree 100% about the emotional thing!!!!! The first few days I Lmost cried over every little thing!!! Then I became very irritated about the littlest things!!! Today I am feeling pretty good overall! Starting tomorrow I'm Clear liquids only Sunday and Monday and Tuesday is my big day!!!!

Well, that was a sleep and a half! Not been sleeping to well as soon as I get in bed, my head starts going over everything that i need to do before I go in, which is Tuesday! OMG and thinking what if this doesn't work and I fail at this diet too, blah blah blah... But finally went to sleep about 1 this morning and finally woke up at 2.30 this afternoon. Think my body finally decided enough was enough and let me sleep!

Does anyone else suffer with loose bowels on their pre-op diet and have an urge to go and rush to the loo?

I have been running to the bathroom with the runs. Oh my it's terrible and sometimes I get very little warning. I feel your pain!

I slept like a rock last night too buy partly because this pre op diet has me tired in general. Have a long day today so the sleep was needed. Have lots of last minute things to get done and then hanging with my best friend for last time before I go in on Thursday.

Thanks! I tired a Unjury sample for lunch an I seem to tolerate it better. I at least didn't have to strong gagging feeling. I also read on there website that blend it with orange juice flavor crystal light and its like a smoothie. I'm think I wil buy it instead. I just hope it gets here soon I don't want to have to choke down the other for to many more days.

Been using Unjury for four years as had a band and my gag reflex has a short fuse. I usually order on the weekend and have it by that week. I use Silk original coconut milk or almond milk 8 ozs. (it has half the carbs as skim but same calories) a scoop of chocolate and a tablespoon of cocoa, blend it, then add Ice cubes and make it thick. Do the same with the strawberry, with either 1/2 banana frozen and fewer ice cubes same milk 8 ozs. or frozen strawberries. /By the way you can use Water also. Also take a tablespoon of SF pudding and do the same thing using the unflavored. Leaving out the ice cubes you have a shake, with the ice cubes you have a smoothie. You can use skim milk, I just count carbs because I have to program my insulin pump on the amount of carbs I eat so it can calculate how much more insulin I need. Since I'm a morning coffee person I sometimes add either the vanilla or chocolate. Also strawberry is good added to the crystal light lemonade. I buy Wylers at a Dollar General store as it is only a $1.00 a box. They also sell orange crush and grape which might be good with the unflavored. Have not tried adding the unflavored to any food figured it would really gag me.

Good luck for Thursday, I should be able to come home either Thursday or Friday so looking forward to being home for the weekend. The hospital I'm going to is about 45 minutes from where I live and don't want to be lonely! I know family are coming to see me but that's only in visiting times :-( Bx

I just finished day 12; now doing two day all clear. As of yesterday I had lost 14 #. So excited! I have read many places though that you gain weight in hospital. Is that all the air they fill you up with?

I weighed at a dr's appt on Wed and it was down from the previous month but just weighed today and I've lost #5 since Wednesday. It took me almost a month to loose 5lbs normally. So at least there is that to keep me motivated while I'm starving. Oh and Memorial Day weekend...all those bbqs going. I'm getting my husband to at least grill for him and the kids. No sense in everyone missing out on the fun just because I'm drinking my food.

Just weighed myself an I'm down 2 pounds in one week. I know that's not much but I did splurge and had two Cookies when I started my period because my sugared dropped so low I was on the verge of passing out. I know Im probably holding extra weight also from being that time of the month so I'm excited to see what I'm down by time surgery is here. Wish I would get my insurance approval already..

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
