michellej 2 Posted May 20, 2013 What I'm trying to understand is what are the sensations? Does your stomach "hurt"? Does it feel like a constant tightness or knot? Is frequent nausea common? Thanks in advance, trying to get an idea of what I can expect realistically, and have no one to ask. .
califmomto4 84 Posted May 20, 2013 Besides the initial pain from the incisions, I don't feel any different. I'm afraid I'll forget I had the surgery & just ready something without thinking about it. I had pain for about a week and a half. I only took pain meds the first 3 days or so. (I also had my gallbladder removed) Obviously I get full quickly & I'm never really HUNGRY. I didn't have any nausea. Of course, everyone is different. This was my first time having surgery and I was scared to death!
pookybear 284 Posted May 20, 2013 I still get hungry but not starving hungry like I used to. I usually get kinda uncomfortable when I eat. Like in the center of my chest between the girls. I also get nauseous quite often after I eat. I don't always throw up though.
SoccerMomma73 1,867 Posted May 20, 2013 I'm just over 3 months out and not really feel anything different. I get hunger pangs but the resolve quickly with a couple bites of something. If I'm super busy and forget to eat I get queasy. But otherwise it's just a slightly noisy, gurgly stomach and just feels like a stomach. The worst one was where the drain tube was in. Plus my staples were ready to come out 3 days before they finally took them out. Once they were out (8 days post op) I was fine. Yes, it's common to have it nausea. I have some every now and then. I haven't had any problems except a lot of stalls but that's 100% normal. Just remember no one is the same and everyone experience is different I wish you the best with your surgery and hope all goes well!!! Felt bloated and some pressure from the gas. I have been blessed as I've not really had any nausea. Pain was a little worse than my gallbladder but nowhere near as bad as my c section or bladder. Walk, walk, and walk some more. I couldn't do many steps at 1st but I did it around my hospital floor as often as I could. I am so glad I listened to that advice. Now I don't feel like I've even had major surgery. I am super full with only a few bites and if I do more than 2 ounces now I have pain between my boobs. Would I do it again? Heck yeah!! I was nearly paralyzed with fear and didn't think I'd live through it( clotting disorder) it was silly emotional reactions to the stress. Don't regret it now one bit that I chose this path! Good luck!!

music1618 879 Posted May 20, 2013 Well I am 11 months post op and the one thing I have learned from this group is the EVERYONE is different. I say that so that you take everything with a grain of salt. I had a rough 3-4 months. For at least 1 month post op I threw everything up when I tried to advance my diet. I was nauseated everyday. I talked with my doc and with the help of medication I got through that 3-4 month period. Now I can eat anything I want and I don't get sick too much any more. After I eat I feel like I have eaten thanksgiving dinner. I get hungry, but the smallest thing takes that feeling away. There are some days I honestly could forget to eat, but that is very unhealthy. kristlynngirl 184 Posted May 21, 2013 Did u have to do the Lovenox? I was so scared. I personally haven't had a clot yet but my mom and sister have had strokes. My sister at 23 from a clot after bc pills. I was on Coumadin for a month with the last blood clot. Aspirin for the rest of my life. I was taken off if hormonal BC and I'm never allowed to take estrogen for anything ever again. And if I ever decide to get pregnant I'll be high risk. shyanne 198 Posted May 21, 2013 It's true EVERYONE is sooo different :-) I had never had major surgery. My surgery took a little longer because I had a stubborn ligament or muscle they had to work around... Didn't have open surgery had laperscopic(sp??) :-) I woke up feeling like I was hit by a bus. It was horrible pain but I was still able to walk that night. I didn't have a drainage tube on my largest incision they just put steri strips over it and it started closing up. A week out I was in horrible pain still. Went back in and the idiot PA told me I pulled a muscle. Where my largest incision was was swollen and red. Gave me pain meds and went on my way. Next day it was WORSE. Took the meds and feel asleep. Woke up with stuff oozing out my largest incision. LoL scare me to death thought I was dying! O_o I can lol at it know :-) the incision had developed a slight infection so all they had to do was open it all the way and pack it every day. I soon felt way better :-D then even soon started feeling great :-D The first few months were rough. I really didn't want to eat at all and I did have a picky pouch. One moment it would like something next it wouldn't and it didn't help I didn't want any thing. 3 months out was when I was really able to eat a variety of foods and get all my Protein and Water in. A year out and I feel pretty good. The hardest thing I struggle with is the head stuff :-) This still helps to read too :-) http://www.dailystrength.org/c/Gastric_Bypass_Surgery/forum/13157871-newbies-need-know/page-
