need support buddy in ct

Recommended Posts

I am 13 months post-op gastric bypass, I have lost 150lbs in 13 months but the weight loss has slowed down and I'm getting discouraged. I don't eat junk food and still have small portions of food but I'm not seeing the drop like I have in the past. I want to reach my goal of 180lbs so I can have my surgery to remove loose skin. Is there anyone in ct or near that would want to be a support buddy?

- Michelle

Hi Michelle. I'm in CT and had gastric bypass at Hartford Hospital. I'm about 2 months post op and have lost about 50 lbs so far. I could use a support buddy too so feel free to message me.

Dr. Tischler was my surgeon. Where are you in CT and what hospital/surgeon did you use?

I'm in Manchester. Yes, I know a couple people that had Dr. Papasavas and I've heard really good things about him (about both of them actually). Do you go to the support meetings at Hartford Hospital? I've gone to a couple of them so far and thought they were pretty good. I think there's one next week (maybe Tuesday night). You've done really well over the last 13 months! 150 lbs is AWESOME!! I have heard that the weight comes off easier in the first year and then starts to slow down. What are you doing for exercise? I have been walking but just recently started biking. There's a group called Healthy Gears that rides some of the bike trails in CT. I went this past weekend for the first time and rode with them in Farmington and went 6 miles! I think I'm going to try to keep that up, I'm more likely to stick with it if it's a group thing.

I have been to the meetings, but not recently. Maybe I'll go to this coming up one so we can meet. I use to live in Manchester off hartford rd, I've been in wethersfield for almost 3 years now. For exercise I do Water aerobics 2x a week and weight training 1x a week, with walking 30 mins just about everyday. And its true after the first year it slows down a bit, but if you're eating right and exercising you keep losing. By the way I tried to send you my number thru private message on here, not sure if it went thru or not.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
