Weightloss discouragement

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery April 22nd (I am 3 weeks post of today) and I am feeling very discouraged. I am only down 11 pounds and I feel like I should be doing better than this. I am terrified that I'm going to be one of those people that this surgery doesn't work for... Any thoughts, suggestions?

You're doing just fine. You gain a lot from the fluids in the hospital and you lose that weight first. So you've really lost however much that was, plus another 11 pounds.

Don't get discourged, I felt I lost weight very, very slow. I think I lost only 12 lbs the first month, after that I would lose 4 and gain 2. But in the end I lost all the weight I wanted in less then a year. Everyone loses differently. If you keep to the plan your Doc has for you, you will successed. Just remember you did this for you and you will be healthier, and feel better.

Don't feel down. Remember one thing we didn't gain weight over night there for over night it won't disappear. You will lose the weight the slower the better. Look a me you can be going for fixing & being told hey put on 10 more pounds you need some fat to put in your butt. Like smh really now I'm too thin for surgery. Oh well...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
