Has anyone had an issue with your thyroid after surgery I'm 6 months post opp May 21st I started at 228lbs and currently 163lbs I eat healthy no cheating and I've been stuck at 163 for over a month, I drink my Protein smoothies eat my daily protein intake of 67grams some days it's really hard but I do it. On April 4th after complaining about always being tired, Moody, excessive Hair loss, 0 sex drive and not loosing any more weight even with the eating pattern I've been on since I went to solid foods I was diagnosed with under active thyroid and the cause was the stress of the surgery and the stress on my body to the rapid weight loss. So I was just wondering if anyone has had this issue and how long it took to feel better again

I had hypothyroid before surgery, you will feel better as soon as your levels improve (a week or two). Not sure how the surgery caused this though this is usually caused by autoimmune disease.

I have no history of thyroid issues in my family and up until April my blood work had always come back negative for any thyroid issues. My Aunt by marriage at age 40 found out she was pregnant then half way through pregnancy was diagnosed with under active then after my cousin turned 1 and blood work her thyroid was normal again

I hope it's just a fluke and your levels return to normal after your body adjusts to surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
