MAY 2013 POST-OP GROUP

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on Monday, May 13th and I was discharged Tuesday evening about 15 lbs heavier than I was before the surgery. I was told it was mostly Water weight but it still is not very motivating taking steps backwards. I am hungry ALL THE TIME!! I hear people say the surgery takes appetite away but I crave food more than I did before the surgery! Is anyone else experiencing this? Also, I am having trouble getting all my fluids in. I have tried sipping every 10-15 min but I get so full and the pains are awful. Maybe if I was losing weight rapidly like I see every one else losing but I'm not so I'm already starting to second guess my decision. Don't mean to sound like a negative Nelly but.......

I'm sorry that this is a tough time for you. However you just had a major surgery and everybody's body's are different therefore they recover differently. So please don't let other peoples progress be the measurement of yours. And know that no matter what you are going through now it will past and in the end this will turn out to be the best decision you ever made for yourself.

Omg' date=' I still have gas pains. It's terrible. I am out and about with the hubby today. In gonna walk a little in the mall. Sounds crazy but need this gas gone!! I also used a heating pad on my back/stomach which helps with the gas pains. Good luck everyone.

Surgery date: May 14, 2013[/quote']

Debbie didn't you say that you got gas x? Did they work ok? I was thinking about buying some as well.

My surgery was great. The pain was less than when I got the lap band. I am home and tired but getting better everyday. No hungry at all.

I'm being a good girl. I finds 50 grams of protien powder a day. Plus any extra that I "eat" I find it best to get it out of the way I mix it up in the morning and sip at it all day. Everything tastes so horrible at the moment. And smells are discusting, I feel like I am pregnant. I am trying some passion lite Jello crystals to flavour my plain protien powder today..some times I use sugarfree liquid syrups.< /p>

Head hunger is what you have. Its difficult but find something to do like walk when you feel hungry. Making sure to get Protein in too. Stay hydrated sip and walk.

Chew ice if your missing the crunch factor.

Remember nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.

It's really hard to get your liquids in when you are only taking 1 ounce every 15 minutes the most I get is 45 to 48 I hope that's good

You really should get 64 oz in. . Its too keep you hydrated. If you can't get all your Protein in that's understandable but you should really try to get your other fluids. My doc told me once I start paying has I can increase to 2oz every 15 min which had really helped with getting it all in.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
