I started my first group support meeting this evening. There was close to 50 people in various stages of the journey present. About 15 of us were preOp. It was a really cool session and it was nice getting all the different perspectives based on their stage of weight loss surgery. I'm actually looking forward to next week! I have my preOp testing this friday and my medical/physical clearance on the 14th. Hoping to get my surgery date soon!

XO

that sounds great if you dint mind me asking how long had it taken you to get to this stage. Did you have a 6 month waiting period.

Truly, not very long. But, I have a lap-band that was ruptured during a fill. So after a failed four year stent w the band I seen a new Bariatric doc and discussed removing the band. He suggested rny. That was in December. I drug my feet for a while and did some research and soul searching. Then seen the doc again in Late march. Paperwork was submitted in April and approved a week later. I had to attend a revision class. A week later after that I had my may 10 & 14 appts.

If all goes well, ill have a surgery date by the end of may or early June. So I started attending the support groups last night. I'm seeing the dietician next week as well. Moving right along!

I really believe that attending a support group or actively participating in a forum like this truly keeps a person sane and makes us more successful. Congrats on your success so far and I hope you get a date soon!!!

I have my first support group meeting tomorrow. I am actually really nervous.

I was really nervous and anxious walking into a room of strangers (I'm such an introvert) but honestly they were accepting, supportive and nonjudgmental! Everyone there was at your place in the journey and it was just super heartwarming to know that there are so many ppl on my side; rooting me on and that want me to succeed! I enjoyed it so much I'm going back next week too :-). I hope your group is well mediated and it doesn't turn into a "patient led bitch fest" as one woman in group called some others she had been too. I hope it's a place u find support and peace and a place where you can succeed.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
