2 Days Until Band Day!

Recommended Posts

Oh my goodness!!!! It's almost here! I feel like I'm falling apart. I want this, but I feel like I'm a nervous wreck! My emotions are crazy--I cry over things that I usually can handle? I keep having dreams about the surgery. What is going on? Is this going to pass after I actually have the surgery on Monday or is it going to get worse? Is this just me, or does this happen to a lot of people before they get the band? It is just such a big deal! It is such a life-changing thing! What if I can't be disciplined enough to eat the way I'm supposed to? What if the after surgery pain is unbearable because I have fibromyalgia--my pain sensitivity has gone over the top since I've had fibro. Help....:help:

It's natural to have nervousness prior to a major surgery. Especially WLS because you're right...you are making a major lifestyle change. But, if you are prepared to do your best and stay committed to making your band work for you then that's what you should try to focus on. The band will help you gain some control over your hunger so don't be too worried about discipline unless you already know that you are not willing to give up sweets and junk food. If you're ready to follow doctor's orders then I suspect you'll be just fine! Good luck!

Hello there! I was banded on February 12. Yes I think you are perfectly normal to be a bit nervous, you are having major surgery after all. But everything will be ok! After your surgery you will be so excited to start your new life journey. Stay on top of your pain meds, dont miss a dose, the first few days after surgery. Take good care of yourself and remember we are all here for you.

You will be fine. I was banded on May 29 and went through the same feelings you are. It is a huge decision to do what we are doing . I am on the pureed stage of food. Also know that you may have feelings afterward of "what did I do?" I did. I really believe that the discomfort and pain meds cause this. Again, this will pass and you wiill be so happy and proud of the courageous decision you have made. That is how I feel now and I am 2 weeks post op. Best of everything to you!:clap2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
