Tough Day at large food event

Recommended Posts

18 days post op....

Had to attend a large picnic-BBQ today. This was 1st time since post-op that I have been around huge quantities of food....

It was not easy - the vegetable & fruit platters were my sore spot. No one knows I had RNY, though most know I am on a strict diet plan, but one friend brought a veggie platter just for me and kept reminding me it was there :(

Another friend brought a shrimp platter (also in part for me).

Then there was all the Hotdogs/hamburgers/ribs/and chicken

OK - I did eat a very small portion of a chicken thigh and CHEWED the heck out of it, and a spoon full of chicken-wing-dip.

Then came the large cake and all the Cookies.

Whew, I am home....... and I got through it. Have another one in 2 weeks but hope to be able to eat a few more items by then (I'll be 30 days post op for that event).

You did beautifully. I understand. :( I have a work potluck. Yay. For two days in a ROW there will be an office FULL of food and 13 chicks stuffing their faces like they've never eaten before in their lives. We had 2 people graduate and 2 student workers are leaving. So yay. ugh. I'm leaving for lunch, not going to the break room at all...I'm going to drink my Water, eat my babybell and then my yogurt, I'll shop during lunch. I'm just going to ignore it. IT AND THE 13 CHIPMUNKS WITH CAKE IN THEIR CHEEKS.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
