Maurice, I don't use a cpap, but I wanted to wish you the best of luck! I would think that weight loss WOULD help w/

your breathing. I've wrestled w/ asthma for years and

this has definitely helped me. Where

were you banded and what was your starting weight/height? :)

Maurice

I had my surgery in APril of this year..Two of the woemn who had surgery the same day as I did both brought their CPAP Machine. I have kept in contact with both of them for the last 4 months and happy to say neither one of them have need to use their CPAP machines since they have lost weight from surgery at about 3 months post op, I have heard many others have had the same success. Good Luck to you...

sleep apnea is NOT always corrected with weight loss. Unfortunately, I'm one that proves it! Even after a 100+ pound weight loss, I still have sleep apnea and still have to use a CPAP machine. In fact, I'm going for another sleep test this week to have the pressures adjusted. The doctor told me that while sleep apnea is often connected to weight and many people do improve, it is not guaranteed - especially if you've had years of sleep apnea. I must say, I am very disappointed that I still have to use the machine, but maybe some day, with even more weight loss, it will go away!

Thanks for the comments, they're helpful and hopeful. To New Hope: I'm getting banded on Friday. I'm starting at 275 lbs. and hope to break 190. Dr. LeMieur will be performing the procedure at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center (www.cuyunamed.org) here in God's Country. It is a fantastic facility here with cutting edge technology. They have installed several thousand bands.

I also had a knee replacement done there in April.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
