mitzie46 116 Posted May 1, 2013 I take hctz (water pill) for high blood pressure. I asked my PCP when I would be going off of it and he said you won't. Has anyone taken this after surgery? Did it increase your risk for dehydration? I'm still preop but thought I would go off of this before my 2 week preop liquid diet. My nut also mentioned this at my appt. I am going to ask my surgeon but wondered if anyone has any info here. Thanks

Thanks Funny I was just reading an article yesterday about hctz and bariatric surgery and it said that on only rare instances patients stayed on hctz after surgery. 1 KimA-GA reacted to this
lrnettles 18 Posted May 1, 2013 I stopped my hctz the day of surgery. I have had no problems with going off it 1 KimA-GA reacted to this
LilBoo007 491 Posted May 1, 2013 I don't know what hctz is but I am 7 weeks post op today and I still have to take diuretics. I take diamox 500mg and 20mg of lasix. It has not affected me after surgery in any way. 2 Tomo and KimA-GA reacted to this

However, I feel bloated and my BP is running high, so I'd really like to get back on it. 1 KimA-GA reacted to this
Tomo 1,194 Posted September 1, 2022 My diuretic Triamterene HCTZ is the only pill I have not stopped because I have edema. I have no issues with it, been on it for years. They recently wanted to cut the dosage but when I tried, I bloated up fast again so I went back to full strength. 1 KimA-GA reacted to this
KimA-GA 540 Posted September 1, 2022 I take chlorthalidone (diuretic for blood pressure) and spoke with my dr about post surgery with it. she said to keep taking it and break daily dose in half if i start feeling dizzy 1 Tomo reacted to this
Queen ApisM 427 Posted September 1, 2022 I take eplerenone, which is a diuretic. I continued to take it after surgery. I also have lasix as needed and they purposely gave to me in the hospital (even though I typically don't take it) and I am glad they did... got rid of post-surgery fluids. It wasn't a problem after surgery. Sure Constipation was an issue, but that's an issue for lots of us regardless of diuretics. I just made sure to get my minimum fluids as soon as I could post surgery. Also, if taking for high blood pressure, it's a good idea to monitor your pressures after surgery. As you lose weight, you may not need it (or as much of it) as you did before. I halved two of my BP meds pretty quickly after surgery. 2 KimA-GA and Tomo reacted to this
amazingmimi 31 Posted September 4, 2022 I was taken off hctz, lisenopril, and metformin the day I left the hospital. I went from taking 7 pills every night to 4. I was taking a double dose of fomatadine to one ppi, and they added in a daily aspirin. Haven’t had any hbp or blood glucose issues since I came home.
