Cryimg and feeling down

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 8 post-op. I'm physically recovering well and am 19 pounds down. Yes, I want to eat but don't feel physical hunger. My problem is that yesterday and today I am in a terrible mood and/or feeling down and depressed. I'm crying unexpectedly for no reason. Any one else experiencing this?

I am!! Same surgery date as you! I have bitten off two of my kids heads today alone. They however did deserve it! ;) I just want everyone to leave me alone and to be in the quiet. I am upstairs by myself so I don't have to yell at anyone else.

I'm 6 days post-op and feel out of whack- physically and emotionally. It's got to be normal but I'm sad that we are finally having nice weather and I'm stuck inside while my husband is out playing with our kids. I just don't physically feel up to it yet. I have sharp pain when I get up or down or when I walk. If I sit still I'm fine. I'm getting the fluids and Protein in just fine but I'm so anxious to be back to normal. I thought it would feel better by now :( Sorry to vent!

Weeks 3-4-5 I thought I was losing my mind....moody, sad, crying. Looked at the other PA in my office and said sister....1 more week of this and I'm going to let you medicate me....about week 6 it all started falling back into place....be patient, try not to be hard on yourself. Hormone are crazy, surgery is a huge stress....so much change is happening......

Sometimes after surgery being down and depressed is very normal. I was like that for a week. I am at 4 weeks tomorrow and it has definitely gotten better. Hang in there!

I am the same exact way today. Snapping at people, not caring if I eat or drink (didnt come close to Protein or water), just feeling blah. Could've layed in bed and slept and it was beautiful out here too. I don't want to complain to husband, so when he asked "what's wrong", I just said to "let me be, that is was normal". I am not ungrateful, but definately a very weird emotional day. And I still have the stupid pain as well. Just sneezed and thought I was gonna cry. Going to bed early! Tomorrow will be better for all of us!

You are such a big help for all of us newbies! I thank you for your words of wisdom, both as a PA and fellow RNYer! :)

I am so sick to my stomach or "pouch" today. It is almost for my "time of the month" I think besides cramps I have bloating and I can't get my liquids in or Protein. I hate protein! Sorry just feel like ranting. Does anyone else hate protein?

Rant all you want! Seems to be the day for it! I didn't eat or drink even near the limit today. Felt like throwing up with everything. Will kick it in high gear tomorrow! I had bought a lot of samples before surgery, in all different flavors. Now they are all too sweet. So much for being prepared. Should've waited and saved my money. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
