Hello everyone! I am new to this forum. My surgery date is June 18, 2013. I have my pre-admission testing June 3rd, my last appointment with the surgeon on June 10th. I start my 'lovely' liquid diet on June 4th. Two weeks of Protein Shakes and Clear Liquids, yummy, I can't wait, LOL! I just hope I can get through these two weeks! I am really glad I found this group. Lots of useful information, lots of support (which I am going to need), and GREAT people! I have been reading through a lot of different threads, and I am so glad to see so many have the same questions and concerns as myself. I am looking forward to becoming more involved in discussions with all of you. Any suggestions, advice, comments would be much appreciated. Congrats and best of luck to all on continued success in this journey, and best of luck to those just beginning ????

I met with my dr. Yesterday and he was telling me his practice hasn't done a band in 2 years and about 95% of band pts are asking to be revised. I have had mine for five years and was shocked to hear im not the only band " failure". It made me feel better.

When I had my initial consult at George Washington University Hospital back in December, my surgeon also told me they no longer place bands. He said that the complication and conversion rates were too high. He is the chief of surgery and the one who performs most of the hospital's bariatric revisions and conversions and he has a very low opinion of the band. I went in armed and ready to convince him that I had been compliant with my band. All of that was unnecessary because he very familiar with band failures. The first thing he did was order an upper GI and an upper endoscopy which revealed that my band had slipped up and was sitting at the base of my esophagus. I was so relieved to finally have confirmation that the band was the problem and that I wasn't a failure.

How did you realize there was a problem? My friend has the band and never really lost with it. She is about 5 years out.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
