Does anyone have their own GP doing their fills?

Recommended Posts

I am a TLBC patient. I had 2 fills done at the TLBC clinic. They mentioned that your GP can do the fills if you want - they supplied me with a instructional CD ROM, for my GP to review. I go Mar 2 to my GP for my "fill". I thought I would give thsi a try- I am 18hrs away from Toronto, so I thought this might be an easier way.. But If I feel that my GP is having problems with the fill I will certainly go back to Toronto.

Just wondered if anyone else is going through this-

Please no FLAMMING -

Robyn,

If your GP is not comfy, check with a local surgeon. I know a friend of mine who lives up north goes to a local surgeon who is used to dealing with chemo ports that are very similar to our ports. She pays to see him on every fill but it is a lot closer and cheaper than going to her surgeon for every fill.

TLBC's video is great, I live close enough to go to the city, I would say this you need to self police yourself if you are going to have someone other than the clinic fill and defill you. I would be cautious and slow about filling if it is local and I would really try and think about whether you need a fill, whether you really are ready to have a fill and eat less and move more.

I hope someone else posts there are a lot of people who get filled by a gp or surgeon.

Hey Heather

I thought I would give it a try- he seems to be ok doing it so will have to see, also If he gets uncomfortable I might ask him if he has any surgeon buddies or even a Dr here at our cancer clinic. On another board I got flammed from one guy because I would let a GP do it. LOL Each there own I guess

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
