6 weeks post op on Tues, right upper abdominal pain

Recommended Posts

For the past 24 hours I have been having the dull aching pain in the right upper quadrant of my abdomen just underneath my ribcage. It is a nagging pain that seems to come on a couple hours or so after eating. I called the surgeon on call and he told me to do liquids or pureed foods for the next 24 hours to see how it goes. I do not have a gallbladder it was removed long ago. Has anyone had anything similar to this happen, he suggested it could be a problem with the opening in my pouch? Any thoughts?

I have pain in the same place and I will be 4 wks out on Wednesday. Mine is definitely muscle. I still have a hard time sitting for very long.

I have also heard of people getting what they call a stricture. That is when your opening is being blocked by scar tissue, I believe.

I don't think mine is muscular it definitely seems to be aggravated by eating. I do not however, have any nausea or vomiting. I guess we will see what my surgeon says when I talk to him tomorrow.

My surgeon didn't think much about it but at 12 weeks post op, I ended up in the hospital with a very large ulcer.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
