Wondering if I am doing the right thing...

Recommended Posts

I know in my heart I am doing the right thing. I want to be healthy and rid of my health problems that came along with being morbidly obese. Then why doing I keep second guessing my decision. I am still along ways from my surgery date. I have to do the six month diet. I feel like I am going to screw everything up. Is normal to feel this way? I very scared of the pain after the surgery. Which I find odd cause I have had 5 open back surgeries( very painful). Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

What you are feeling is 100% normal. I would call you a fool if you were not scared or second guessing. You are making one of the biggest decisions of your life.

You have time. Make sure that through the next 6 months you know what you are doing. Research the hell out of everything. You will be fine

This is a major life change. It's totally normal to feel unsure or scared. I was fine *mine moved really quick. I started researching in like february and had surgery in April 1. All I had to do was sleep study and blood test before so* But the last 2 weeks before surgery....I kept wavering and was one second from calling it off.

Then there comes that moment...when you're at the hospital and they haven't taken you back yet and you know that this is it. This is the moment. Either you put your life and future in this persons hand and start a new chapter...or you yell hell NO and run. So, research. Ask questions. Find a surgeon that you feel comfortable with handing over your life...and do what feels right. :)

My surgeon intimidates me. I get nervous when he comes in the room.....but do I believe the man is skilled and the best possible surgeon that I could find? Oh yeah. I do. I have no doubt that he's one of the top in his field and that my success is his success. So I did it. And I'm happy. :)

Today was the first time in FIVE years that I've been under 300. I'm 299!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
