Ok so for about a week now I have been having some weird feelings in my stomach and back on same side. I do not have my gallbladder so lets get that out of the way. So I am more bloated, burpy, and pain not severe but uncomfortable especially after eating and drinking and when this happens my back will get this burning numbness feeling. Its in same side as my stomach. And each day the symptoms seem to worsen. I don't know whether to call or what as I have so much going in right now finals coming up and plus another major surgery (radical hysterectomy) next week. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be?

I would call your surgeon.

How long post op are you?

I think a endoscopy should be done.

My sister was just diagnosed with a ulcer, hers started slowly..she is 2 yrs post op. there were times when she would eat and as she stated the food would "grind" on her stomach and she would have to spit it up. Now every time she eats she has to spit it up. she had a scope and she has stricture and a ulcer. Her pain is only when she eats something. I would call your surgeon ASAP.

I have one. About 6 weeks post op I had trouble keeping anything down and was nauseous constantly. My surgeon & I both assumed it was a stricture. We did a scope and found an ulcer. He put me on protonix and liquid carafate and I felt better in a few days.

Thanks! I know its not a stricture I had dealt with 2 procedures to fix those in month one and two post op plus gallbladder two months post op this is all new and seems to be getting worst this evening. I just hate calling them. They make me feel like a hypochondriac lol but I haven't called them in 3 months so they are due. Should I call tonight or just wait till in the morning?

I was diagnosed with an ulcer at the anastomosis at about one year post-op. My symptoms sound similar to yours. Pain was not severe but it was there and an endoscopy confirmed the ulcer. I was on Prevacid (one a day) from day one post-op and surgeon told me to increase to twice a day. Second endoscopy about four months later showed the ulcer completely healed. Waiting until your break will not likely make a big difference but definitely a good idea to call your doctor and get it checked out. Definitely treatable if it is an ulcer!

I called and they said to just take previcid or mylanta to see if it helps. They did not seem to be concerned about it. This is why I hate calling them

If it is an ulcer, an endoscopy will identify it. So, a couple of options you might want to consider. Call them back, schedule an appointment with your surgeon and share your concerns with him/her. Alternatively, do the same with your primary care. The PCP can refer you to a GI specialist who can order the endoscopy or may even be able to order the endoscopy him or her self. At the very least, any of those doctors can explain why they think there's nothing to worry about and/or give you a timeline of continuing pain before they feel additional testing is needed. If you have to be assertive then be assertive. Once they understand you're not going to be brushed off there's usually no more problems.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
