Annoyed and frustrated

Recommended Posts

My parents are suddenly antiRNY. After a year of preparing for RNY they are now, with only two days to surgery all "Why don't you get the sleeve, less complications with the sleeve, are you sure you want to have surgery, You won't be able to eat that little, you're too young, huge lifestyle change, you won't be able to handle it, So and so had RNY and nearly died, So and so had the sleeve and they lost (blank) weight."

And I'm like WHY NOW? OVER A YEAR AND NOW YOU'RE VOICING ALL OF THIS NOW! WTF???

I snapped tonight and I say "I'm doing this, it's my decision. If you were this concerned, why didn't you voice this a year ago when I started this whole thing and told you the options. This surgery is my choice and I've made my decision, and I'd like you to support that. End of story."

Of course, we all have parents and know it wasn't the end of story. They are still trying to sway me, But I'm standing firm.

Thank you for ready my little rant.

They're just being parents, it's what they do....I would, in a non-rant moment, say something like 'I know you guys are worried, and I appreciate that, but I'm an adult and I've made my decision. I am nervous and scared and would appreciate you supporting me in this'. If that doesn't work then I'd use the 'if you don't have anything once to say then don't say anything at all' line :)

Likely....they mean well....they're probably just scared :). GOOD LUCK!!!!

They are just scared and worried and it is normal, but I totally understand how you feel. My dad was super supportive the whole time, actually my whole family was, but a couple of weeks before surgery he started asking like, why don't you this or that diet? and I was like, I've tried them all... and I actually sat down that night and made a list of all the diets I'd been through, nuts, doctors, clinics, pills, gyms, classes, etc so the next time he would say something I would show it to him, but fortunately he did not, I guess my mom calmed him down and said they should just be supportive, so believe me, it is NORMAL! and you should be happy that they care so much. You will do great and they will happy for you the whole time! :D

I actually dealt with the same thing. They kept after me all the way till they were told to leave so I could head back to surgery. I don't know what happened while I was in surgery but they were so much more accepting after then before and also defended me when people would make comments that I was taking the easy way out. Now, is a different story cause the jealousy but oh well. Keep your head high and you are doing this for you and your future. Good luck on the surgery and I pray all will turn out great for you!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
