Veggies and Fruit?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery February 19. I feel like I've been on mushies for ev er. When were you allowed to have fresh fruits and veggies? When are seeds and peels no longer an issue? I miss corn.

Ask your dietitian. I won't get fruit or veggies for quite a while.

My doctor said to say bye bye to corn. As for fruits and veggies I'm 1 month out and I'm eating both. It's not much but I can.

I was back on fruits and veggies by 2 months, start soft and advance slowly. No issue with any of it, corn was fine. Haven't tried citrus or apple with peel yet though!

At six weeks I was able to eat a regular diet including raw veggies. When I was eating soft or mushy food they allowed soft or mushy fruits and veggies. I bought alot of the four packs of mandarin oranges and pears in Water and bananas. However check with the dietitian in charge of your program for specifics...

The nuts allowed me to have soft and mushable fruits and veggies now at two weeks postop. No corn or peels for six months. But i can have melon, bananas, canned fruit packed in juice then drained, carrots, peas, brocoli... The veggies have to be heavily boiled or steamed though. And chew good! :) ... Of course this is all sparingly - I'm too busy getting Water and Protein in to be able to eat much else.

Thanks everyone. I have an appointment this week with my NUT. I'll see what she says. I am not so good with cooked veggies. I like them better raw. I am dying to expand my diet a bit so I don't get too bored. Bored = bad. :/

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
