Pale / Clay Colored Poop

Recommended Posts

Hi all, sorry for the nasty question, but I feel I need to know if I should contact the doc or not.

I seem to be having pale or clay colored poops lately and doing some research it seems that this can be caused by not enough Bile in the digestive tract.

Could also be Gallstones, or medications.

Anyone else have this problem? Should I contact my Surgeon? Or should I just wait a day or two?

I had that until I added veggies and fruit. I think you should call to set your mind at ease, but for me it was normal. I am 7 weeks post surgery.

Thanks I am 6weeks PO tomorrow, I think I am not getting enough veggies. I will just make sure I am getting enough, and monitor it this week, if it doesn't come right I'll see the doc next week.

Thanks

I have heard this is a sign of low Iron.

Thanks for the suggestion. I forgot to take my Iron pills this weekend, so that could be it.

Me, too. I haven't discovered a pattern but I'll look for causes you all suggested. I do take Iron every day so don't think it's that, unless I'm not taking enough. Glad to know I'm not the only weird one!

Try having more veg and less fatty food if you are having any. Made sure I had my Iron supplement and veggies yesterday and today my poop looked normal in color.

I will keep monitoring it. The scale also moved down a pound. Now 35lbs down since surgery.

If you are getting adequate fluids and still have dark urine along with your clay- colored 💩I definitely would say Gall Bladder or liver problems. And with liver get even more symptoms, but to allay your fears see either your surgeon if you're still in Early Days or your PCP if you're farther along. My PCP is an internal medicine specialist and he just ❤sharing ME with all his buddies in other specialis

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
