Please help! Fever wont cease!

Recommended Posts

Hi friends

Hope any of you know perhaps a bit more or has been through the same as I. I've had my RNYGasttic bypass 3/4 days ago and still in hospital.

I am running a high fever of anything between 37 and 40.

They give me stuff in my IV then I feel better but only a little while and it starts up again.

My face is extremely hot the whole time. And my body is cold, sometimes it starts shivering but my face is hot hot hot like it is on fire.

Except for that I am fine. My incisions seem fine, the op went well, I can get up and walk around. Just this terrible heat in my face and fever.

Anybody have an idea?? Is there a doctor on here with experience? They've sent bloodwork away now, hopefully it indicates the problem.

I am really so so so so worried.

Fever indicates an infection of some kind. They should be giving you antibiotics. Sorry you are going through this, but you're in the best place to get it taken care of!

I ran fevers in the hospital and the first few days home. I was on antibiotics post op which I would imagine you are too. If they sent blood work and cultures out hopefully it will just run it's course. Usually fever can indicate infection but not always. You are in the hospital best place to be and they should be monitoring this and letting your surgeon know. Usually tylenol will bring it down if it gets too high but sometimes fever are also good for our bodies to due what they are programmed to do.

I ran a slight fever in the hospital and after I got home, especially evenings when I got tired. I was told this was normal after major surgery. I was not on any antibiotics and just controlled the fever with Tylenol. I came home with orders to call if the fever reached 101, which it never did. If it's an infection, hope they can pinpoint what the problem is. Drink, drink, drink! That will help. Dehydration can make fever worse as well. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
