5 WEEKS POST OP, HOW MANY CALORIES TO EAT EACH DAY

Recommended Posts

I am about to start my 6th week in a couple of days and I am still having problems getting enough calories in each day. I DO get all my Protein in and I am still working on getting 64oz of Water in each day. I often get around 640 calories to 800 a day. Does this sound right to anyone? I am not sure how many calories I should take in each day. Should I get at least 900 calories a day or am I worrying for nothing?

I also need to know how long it takes you to eat your Breakfast, lunch and dinner each day? If I eat my breakfast so should I say drink my breakfast in 20 to 25 minutes I wind up dumping, I am not sure what I am doing wrong and I need help. I need some insight from those who have been thru this.

Thank you for your help.

most say 800. I take at least 30 minutes to eat...but I have a small amount, 1 oz. Once I eat more, my doc says 1 hour for meals. What is your definition of dumping and if it's just it's too fast, just slow down. :)

Nella thank you. I think I need to slow down instead of 2oz of cheese I will eat only 1 oz. I am just beginning to realize how small my pouch really is. And, I will start to get some additional calories in each day. Thank you again. Cheryl

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
